Pigeon Race The Ashburton Pigeon Flying Club’s birds raced from Rangiora to Ashburton on Saturday, 17 birds taking part. Results were: —R. Thomas 1,2 and 3; B. Mathieson 4; F. T. Miles 5.
New Projector for High School Purchased about 15 years ago, at a cost of £llO, a projector owned by the Ashburton High School Board has just been sold for £BS. This Avas reported at the monthly meeting to-day, and the purchase of a neAv machine, at £167 10s, Avas also aiitliorised.
School Painting May Cost £IBOO Preliminary estimates are to be secured for painting of the Ashburton High School buildings, it Avas reported to the board meeting to-day. An estimate given by an Education Department officer recently Avas. that the Avork AA r ould cost in the vicinity of £IBOO.
Ashburton High School Account® Income exceeded • expenditure by £409, during the past 13 months reported the secretary, Mr C. Denham, at the monthly meeting of the Ashburton High School Board this morning. Capitation grants amounted to £1585 and expenses totalled £1176. Accrued income in trust funds aggregated £492.
Boys’ Brigade. Parade Yesterday the three Ashburton companies of the Boys’ Brigade paraded for morning service at the Baptist Church, there being 33 officers and boys on parade. The service was conducted ihy the Rev. C. D. Rosie. Being the first parade of the year, the service Avas one of dedication —dedication of the officers , and boys to their Avork for this session. Building Committee for High School Aiming to cut doAvn ,the time required for dealing with business ap the monthly meetings, the Ashburton Higli School Board to-day decided to appoint a building committee which will deal Avith preliminary details in connectiqn >vith projected >Vork about the school and submit recommendations to the full board. Moore) a member ex officio. ..... , / Art for High School Walls Efforts to increase interest in art are being made by the staff of the Ashburton High School, it Avas mentioned by the headmaster, Mr W. L. Jolly, at the monthly board meeting to-day, and lie A\ r as granted to purchase, at a cost of £9 10s, prints of tAvo paintings for hanging on the walls at the school. These prints are of “Tavo Dancers on a Stage” (Degas) and “Landscape near Arles” (Van Gogh). 1
