LANGLEY CUP MATCH

WIN FOR CHRISTCHURCH The annual match for the J. F. Langley Cup between the Christchurch Bowling Centre and the Mid-Canter-bury Sub-Centre \vas played on the Spreydon green on Saturday and resulted in a win for Christchurch by 208 points to 194. The match was to have been played at Rakaia some, weeks ago, but was postponed on account of bad weather. So that the fixture might not lapse, Mid-Canterbury agreed to travel, thus maintaining unbroken the series begun in 1933. Since them Christchurch have won the cup on 10 occasions and Mid-Canterbury on seven. In handing over the cup after the match, the president of the. Mid-Can-terbury Sub-Centre (Mr R. L. Lindsay) said that ■it had been loaned to Christchurch “for centennial year only.” The match had been a most enjoyable one, and he expressed thanks to the Christchurch Centre for their hospitality. HAMPSTEAD CLUB CLOSE-OF-SEASON FUNCTION An open pairs competition was the playing feature of the closing day of the Hampstead Bowling Club, held on Saturday afternoon. The winners were Mr and Mrs J. Wylie and Messrs N. Mclntosh and C. Young. Competition trophies for the year were won as follows: - Senior championship singles, B. Thompson; pairs, Messrs C. K. Stowell and J. Jackson (skip); colts’ singles, J. Stowell; ladies’ pairs’ championship,Mesdames L. Snell and C. Sutherland. A bring and buy stall and novelty competitions were held, and the club’s funds benefited to the extent of £27.
