% LIGHT FROST TO-DAY After a frost of 1.3 degrees, the atmosphere in Ashburton this morning had a definite nip, and it was not until later in the morning that temperatures rose. At 1 o’clock conditions were pleasant, with the sun shining. Yesterday’s maximum temperature of 56.8 degrees was the lowest since January 29 when the recording was 56.0 degrees. Other recordings taken to 9 o’clock this morning were: —Minimum temperature 36.2 (lowest for the year), earth 55.8 degrees, barometer 29.91. For the third time this year no sunshine was recorded yesterday.

OUTLOOK FAIR (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General situation: An anti-cyclone covers New Zealand. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: — Variable winds, south-westerlies prevailing for a time to-morrow; weather fair; mild day temperatures. Outlook: Fair.
