ASHBURTON FILM SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING LAST

EVENING

There was a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Ashburton Film Society last evening. The president (Mr CUE. Moller) presided. In pi’esenting the report and cial statement on the society’s activities for the half-year since its Inception, Mr Moller said that there had been five monthly-“screenings, all well attended. Three programmes included a feature film and two comprising travel and documentary films. One programme had been obtained from the National Film library, and the other from the Shell Oil Company. There were 43 financial members, said Mr Moller, and a greatly increased membership was required if the society was to be financial and at the same time screen satisfactory programmes, Considei'able trouble had been experienced in obtaining suitable films for presentation, but this applied mainly to full length pictures. The balance-sheet, concluded Mr Moller, showed a deficit of £l/14/6. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr Moller; vicepresidents, Messrs A. O. Edwards, L. A. Colville and S. K. Carswell: secretary, Mr W. P. Drummond: treasurer, Mrs H. Silverwood; committee, Mrs C. F. Parsons, Messrs V. W. Russell, W. L. Jolly, R. Neilson, J. Coward and J. M. Bell. Prior to the annual meeting a onehour programme of featurette films was screened. They were:—“The Barein Story,” a short subject depicting life on the remote island of Barein and its primary industry—oil; and “Shining Mountain's,” a Canadian Pacific Railway picture giving glimpses of the luxurious mountain -resorts at Banff, Lake Louise and the Columbia Icefields, together with scenic attractions along the 600-mile railway route through the Rocky Mountains. The third film was “Laurentian Playground,” showing ski-ing resorts near Montreal.
