CROQUET
CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY FINALS COMPLETED In the final of the open championship played in connection with the South Canterbury croquet tourney, completed in Ashburton to-day, Mrs W. H. Kirk defeated W. IT. Kirk in three games, 26-23, 21-26, 26-11, after both players had performed the double peel. Kirk has won the title on five occasions. Mrs A. Nottle (Westport) completed ‘ a treble by winning the women’s championship from Mrs H. Dempsey (Waimate). The trophies were presented last evening by the treasurer of the South Canterbury Croquet Association (Miss Sonaway) in the. absence of the president (Mrs Allchurch). Final results were as follow:
Women’s Championship.—Mrs A. Nottle (both lives); runner-up, Mrs H. Dempsey. Level Singles.—Mrs H. Dempsey beat Mrs S. Robinson (Methven), 2126, 26-19, 26-16. , B Grade Championship.—Mrs R. Hawke (Ashburton) beat Mrs E. A. Travis (Christchurch), 26-19. C Grade Championship.—lt. H. Clark (Dunedin) beat Mrs E. A. Mangin (Methven), 26-21. Championship Doubles. —Mrs A. Nottle (Westport) and Miss R. Kirk (Geraldine) beat Mrs T. F. Cleary and Miss M. McDowell (Ashburton), 26-10. Senior Handicap Singles.—Mrs H. Thompson (Ashburton) beat Mrs H. Dempsey (Waimate), 26-8. Senior Handicap Doubles. —Mrs A. Nottle and Miss R. Kirk beat Mesdames S. Robinson and A. Paddy (Methven), by default. Junior Handicap Singles.—Mrs E. Zolirab (Ashburton) beat Tt. H. Clark (Dunetfin), 26-24. Junior Handicap Doubles. Mesdames M. Mclnnes (Christchurch) and C. Ward (Ashburton) beat Mesdames M. Milne and E. A. Mangin (Ashburton), 26-21.
