CRICKET

SLOW SCORING

• AUSTRALIANS IN CHRISTCHURCH (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 3. In spite of a batting failure, Canterbury finished the first day of the match against the touring Australian cricket team at Lancaster Park to-day on almost even terms with the visitors. Batting first on a good pitch, Canterbury lost six wickets for 82 runs and was all out for 143, but at the end ef the day Australia bad lost five wickets for 97 runs. For spectators wanting to see only quick scoring it must have'been a dull day, for only 240 runs were scored in 330 minutes, but it was an interesting and at times absorbing struggle.

AUSTRALIA ALL OUT CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. Australia continued their unfinished innings this morning and managed to pass Canterbury’s score for the loss of eight wickets. The last two wickets put on 33 and G2 respectively, Johnston making 61 and Iveson 24. Australia’s innings closed for 210.
