THREE BURNED TO DEATH

SMALL CAR BURSTS INTO * FLAMES (P.A.) HASTINGS, March 3. Three persons were burned to death when they Avere trapped in a small car which caught fire Avhen it overturned on the Hastings-Napier highway four miles from Hastings at' 8.35 o’clock this morning. They were all members of one family on a holiday visit to Napier. They were: Henry J,:Kearney, aged 90 years, retired journalist, of 24 Beauchamp Street, Karori, Wellington. 4 , Mrs Kearney, his wife, aged 70. Miss Merle, Kearney, their daughter, clerk, aged 45. The car was seen travelling south along the main highway Avith flames issuing from the rear. An explosion Avas heard, and people who arrived on the scene almost immediately found the car lying, ph its side, blazing from bumper to bumper.
