FIFTY YEARS SYNE (From the “Guardian,” Mar. 4, 1900). Hinds School.—The Hinds School shared the holidays consequent upon the defeat of Cronje and the relief of Ladysmith. Mr Sheldon, master 'of the main school, Miss Newman, mistress of the side school, released the children, who cheered the Queen, the Generals and others, and sang the National Anthem.—County Council: The regular meeting of the Ashburton County Council v T as attended by Messrs C. J. Harper (chairman), E. G. Wright, J. Lambie, M. Stitt, J. Johnston, H. Friedlander, S. S. Chapman, and G. A. M. Buckley. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” Mar. 4, 1925). Night Classes at Technical School.— The evening classes at the Ashburton Technical School re-opened last evening when the plumbing and English class pupils oyer 16 years of age attended. The other classes set down for last evening were postponed till next Wednesday. To-night the classes to be resumed will be dressmaking, drawing, metalwork, book-keeping, and wool-classing. Day school pupils over 16 are being asked to make use of the evening classes as much as possible. A class of pupil teachers of the Ashburton district will be held this evening, when the subject will be drawing.
