SOVIET OBDURATE
NO DISCUSSION OVER JAPANESE TOKIO, Jan. 4. The Russian delegation walked out of a meeting of the Allied Control Council for Japan to-day, when the question of th"§* reparation of .J apanese prisoners of Russia was raised.
Lieutenant-General K. Derevyanko (Russia) described America’s attempts to discuss the question as unlawful. Mr William- J. Sebald ~ (United States) said that America had sent an official Note to Russia, asking for information about missing Japanese. The Note had suggested that an international humanitarian body should fully investigate the fate of Japanese detained in Russian territory since Japan’s surrender. The Note had said that the discrepancy in the figures of Japanese prisoners could be “explained only by the continued detention of large numbers of Japanese in Soviet-controlled areas, or by an abnormally high death factor.” The council adjourned.
