ACCREDITING LIST APPROVED REPORT BY PRINCIPAL The report of the principal of the Ashburton High School (Mr W. L. Jolly presented to a meeting of the Board of Governors this morning contained the following: The accrediting for University Entrance of the following sixth form pupils has been approved by the authorities of the University of New Zealand: —Margaret Hill, Lois Mackie, Robin Major, Joy Moore, B. Cameron, T. R. Dawson, J. Gluyas, R. Macfarlane, G. Mee, A. Miles, P. Millichamp, W- Moffatt, J. Stockman.

Dealing with examinations, the report further recorded that Jean Cairns, a sixth form student at the school, had passed in stage I. French at the Canterbury University College examinations.

Other items in the principal’s report were: There had again bean no entries for the John Bell Scholarship: the ground for agricultural plots had been cleared and ploughed: the chief inspector for Bost-Primary schools had visited the school, and had discussed with the principal and Mr McGregor the plans for agriculture course instruction.

The board decided that a six-gallon zip heater be installed at the school, and that some 30 square yartte of concrete at the entrance to tliq rectory be renewed.

In connection with preparation of plots for agriculture, it was resolved that application be made to the Department for a grant to erect a board fence between the cricket, ground and the plots.

The top-dressing of the path leading to school outbuildings and the provision of storage room for cricket material were approved by the board. A letter of thanks was received from Mr E. J. Wood, expressing appreciation. of' the interest taken by board members in the activities of the S9IIOOI debating club. It was agreed to hold a special meeting of the board on Thursday next to consider plans for the utilisation of the school hostel, and that the next ordinary meeting be held on February 13, 1950.

The principal was given authority to dispose of the talkie projector at present at the school, and purchase a new Bell-Howell unit.
