NEXT WEEK

CABINET RESIGNA-

TIONS

PRIME MINISTER CALLS ON GOVERNOR

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) to-day called on the GovernorGeneral (Sir Bernard Freyberg) and advised him that resignations from the Labour Cabinet would be placed in his hands probably about next Wednesday. If the usual procedure is followed, the Governor-General will ask Mr Fraser and his Ministers to carry on the administration of the country until the new ministers are sworn in. This is expected to take place next Friday or early in the following week. At no stage will the country be without a Government.

National Party members are likely to be called to Wellington early next week for a caucus. A Labour Party caucus also will probably be called soon.

MINISTER PLANS REST

MR SEMPLE WANTS FISHING ROD (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. “I shed no tears. There will be no sobbing,” said the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple) to-day, with the election in retrospect. Mr Semple added that he was looking forward to a rest. “All I want is a fishing rod and two good Eiabrador dogs. I have the best rifle in the world.”

The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) said the new session of Parliament could not come soon enough. He plans a holiday; but said he was determined that, if necessary, the new Government’s legislation would be fought with all the grim tenacity shown by Labour’s Parliamentary pioneers.

Many Ministerial offices 'to-day looked like busy houses on spring cleaning day, as secretaries got down to the task of clearing away the mass of private and constituency papers accumulated over 14 years. '% : , . CLEANING-UP MEETING

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A two-hour meeting of cabinet 1 was held yesterday afternoon. “We have just been cleaning up routine matters that accumulated,” said the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, after the meeting.
