BOS MURPHY WINS

Points Verdict Over Dilks (Rec. 10.0 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 22. The former New Zealand middleweight champion, Bos Murphy, easily outpointed George Dilks (South Emsall) in eight rounds at Manchester to-night.

When the final hell rang the referee walked without hesitation to Murphy to raise his hand. Murphy was a most deserving and easy winner. With superior use of a straight left he took command of the fight from the first round. Dilks opened the first round with an onslaught of two-handed swings to the face and body, but kept at long range during the rest of the first two rounds. In the third round Murphy drove Dilks to the ropes with a flurry of two-hand-ed blows. Dilks was swinging wildly in the fourth round, and Murphy was untroubled to avoid the blows. In the fifth round Dilks connected with two stiff rights to the chin. Murphy recovered with a hard left, but made little use of his right hand. Murphy forced Dilks to the ropes in thd sixth round with short right jabs, then drove him across: the ring and measured for a left, but was slow in bringing it over, and Dilks rolled clear. The seconds used a refresher to revive Dilks during the interval, and he came from his corner with spirit. In a bout of toe to toe exchanges in the seventh round Murphy had a cut opened over his left eye. Dilks was still swinging aggressively, but was tiring, and Murphy scored points with clever boxing. Murphy opened the final round with three lefts to the face. Then Dilks was warned during a clinch. The cut over Murphy’s eye opened again. The New Zealander forced Dilks to the ropes with both hands. Dilks tried swings to the face and then to the body, but Murphy’s superior ringcraft kept him out of trouble.
