FULL MILITARY AID

Iraq’s Assurance to Syria

ISRAELI INTENTIONS BEING WATCHED

(N.Z.P.A.—Copy right)

LONDON, April IS.

has assured Syria of full military aid in the event of aggression, says an official statement issued in Bagdad after the return of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri el Eaid, from a visit to Damascus.

The statement said: “The Iraq Government has been closely watching the Israeli-Syriqn armistice negotiations lest the JeWs take advantage of the recent coup d’etat in Syria to drive a hard bargain. Our Prime Minister flew to' Damascus to assure Syria that any Zionist aggression would be considered as aggression against Iraq herself, and that the Iraqi Army would at any time be "ready to answer the call of brotherhood.” No Arab for one moment doubts that Israel intends .to seize the rest of Palestine and as soon as she feels the time ripe to do so, says the Cairo correspondent or “The Times.” The temporary breakdown of the Arab League as an expression and instrument of Arab solidarity has made it imperative for the Arab States to find stopgap solutions of their own while the League rebuilds, reorganises and recasts its policy.

Transjordan’s Prime Minister, Houda Pasha, returned to Amman from Cairo to-day with an agreement which apparently settles recent Egypt-Trans-jprdan differences, says the Amman correspondent of the Associated Press.
