BOTTLE FOUND ON BEACH (P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 16. Walking along the beach near Herne Bay a few days ago, Hector Hammeiton a young Aucklander, found small bottle! It contained a note, which if genuine, means the bottle lias been on its way for 23 years. The, note read: “SS-Mataroa .Tasman Sea, 1926. Time, 5.30 p.m. 11. 1. Godlocns. The note vvas written in ink on halt a sheet, torn from a notebook, lhe bottle vvas securely corked, and sealed with wax. . If the note vvas genuine it must have been written on the Mataroa s first Tasman voyage. Formerly the Diogenes, the Mataroa was lenamecl in f 926 for the antipodean service:
