BACON AS MARKER LONDON, April 17. Naming the “enemies of books, the borough librarian of Reading, Mr Stanley Horrocks, said he had. known readers to use a. kipper and a rasher, of bacon as book-marks. He declared, however, that enemy No. 1 was the turner-down of- leaves. No. 2 was the person who scored passages with a pencil.
