BIBLE CLASS CAMPS

TEMUKA AND METHVEN

As is usual at Easter, Bible class camps are being conducted throughout New Zealand.

Local interest centres in the Methodist camp at Temuka, which contains some 180 campers, 35 being from the Ashburton district, and the Presbyterian young women’s camp at Methven, with a roll of about 70. Full results from the latter are not yet available. It ‘ comprises 25 young women from South Canterbury, 12 from Christchurch, and the remainder from Ashburton parishes. Sister McDonald is in charge, the Rev. D. M. Steedman conducted the camp service on Good Friday, and the Rev. D. G. Shaw ,the Communion service yesterday morning.

, Ashburton Presbyterian young men are in the North Canterbury camp at Loburn.

At the Methodist Camp, the Rev. W. T. Blight took the Friday service, and talks on Boys’ Brigade work were given by Captains Lewis and Robertson, the two visitors from London who were recently in Ashburton. On Saturday sports were held, Ashburton competitors being successful as followsGirls’ relay: Ashburton 3. Boys’ events: Senior 100 yards, G. Wakelin and John Hardwick .(equal) l; junior mile, G. Ward 2; senior 440 yards, J. Hardwick 1; senior high jump, G. Wakelin 1, Hardwick 3. The camp captain is the Rev. D. G. Sherson, and the chief officers Miss D. Bishop and Mr K. Gosnell.
