RECORDS FOR NOVEMBER Rainfall records taken at “WaiKainga,” Wakanui, during November totalled 3.66 inches, as compared with .6S inches for November of last year. Last month was the wettest November since before 1939. Rain was recorded on 11 days in November this year and on three days last year. The total for the year to the end of November is 24.47 inches, as compared with 31.48 inches for the same period last year. The totals for November since 1939 are as follow: — 1939, 1.33 inches (9 days); 1940, 3.29 inches (11 days); 1941, 1.03 inches (9 days); 1942, 2.54 inches (12 days); 1943, .86 inches (6 days); 1944, 2.10 inches (12 days); 1945, .63 inches (5 days); 1946, 2.74 inches (13 days); 1947, .68 inches (3 days); 1948, 3.66 inches (8 days). RAINFALL AT MT. SOMERS VERY WET NOVEMBER Rain fell on 19 days during November at Mount Somers, totalling 6.36 inches, compared with 97 points for November last year. A maximum fall of 1.64 inches fell on the 2nd. The year’s rainfall totals 40.50 inches, compared with 37.01 inches for the corresponding period last year. Fire-Fighting Committee At a recent meeting of residents, which was attended by Mr R. L. Lindsay, chief fire warden of the Ashburton County Council, and Mr R. Burnett, of Ashburton, it was decided to form a fire-fighting committee at Mount Somers, and a sub-committee was formed to obtain further information as to purchase of water pump, hose and other appliances, and to report to a later meeting. Mr R. M. Mulligan was appointed chairman and Mr L. S. Morgan secretary.
