DRAINS INSPECTED

ASHBURTON-HINDS SCHEME , * An inspection of the drains on the Ashburton-Hinds drainage scheme was made yesterday by Mr W. L. Newnham, chairman of the Soil Conservation and Rivei's Control Council, accompanied by members of the local committee of the South Canterbury Catchment Board. During the morning Mr R. D. Robinson accompanied the party, and explained his objections to the design of the drains. Subsequent to the completion of the inspection, Mr Newnham stated to the committee that, in his opinion, the work being carried out was completely in accordance with the covenants made between the ratepayers and the Catchment Board, and between the Catchment Board and the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council.
