“MONTY’S’ VISIT
ASHBURTON ARRANGEMENTS ' APPEAL TO PUBLIC Arrangements for the visit of Field-Marshal Viscount Montgomery to Ashburton on Tuesday have V .been completed by those in charge, but in two further directions, according to appeals made to-day by the Mayor (Mr E. C. Bathurst), the public may assist materially. Bunting and flags will be freely displayed in Baring Square, but the Mayor suggests that the gaiety of the occasion would be considerably enhanced if business premises, both on East and West Streets, also did their part in this connection. He appeals, therefore, to all firms and shops to display as many flags,.etc., as possible on Tuesday. < Mr Bathurst emphasised, too, that the parking of cars along the FieldMarshal’s route would interfere with the view of pedestrians on the footpath. To avoid this, consequently,' he makes a further appeal that motorists should refrain from parking cars anywhere in East Street, between Moore Street and the railway station, during the famous soldier’s visit.
