UNSETTLED TO-DAY , With a threatening sky and occasional' showers conditions in Ashbur*, ton to-day 'were cold, and unsettled, as predicted. No frost was recorded this morning. The barometer showed a considerable drop, registering 28.84 inchesagainst 29.10 yesterday. The maximum ’ temperature yesterday was 61 degrees, compared with 56.4 on Wenesday. The screen minimum last night was 43 degrees, against 40.2 on the previous night. The earth temperature to-day was 39.9 degrees. RAIN, SNOW AND COLD (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The government Meteorologist,. at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:General situation: A deep depression is situated south-east of Southland and an intense anti-cyclone over south-east Australia. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: — South-west winds, strong on the coast, and fresh at times inland. Weather showery and very cold with some snow inland and on the high country. Further outlook: Weather improving slowly, though still cold. SUN AND MOON Sun rose to-day, 7.59 a.m.; sets, 5.17 p.m. Sun rises to-morrow, 7.59 a.m.; sets, 5.18 p.m. First Quarter, July 25, 10.54 a.m. Full Moon, August 2, 1.50 p.m. Last Quarter, August 10, 8.22 a.m. New Moon, August 16, 11.12 p.m.
