STATE HOUSES DESIRED
REQUEST BY TINWALD TOWN BOARD Renewed requests to the State Housing Department for consideration of the erection of State houses at Tinwald were decided upon at the monthly meeting of the Town Board last evening. \ Representations to this end were made previously without result, but members considered that, in view of the great shortage of accommodation in Tinwald, further efforts should he made. Other business before the meeting, which was attended by Messrs H B. Millicliamp (chairman), A. B. Simpson, R. J. Tarbotton, H. W. Carpendale and J. B. Nicoll (secretary), was fairly brief. 1 It was decided to give notice of the board’s intention to strike a general rate of 2d in the £, and a sanitary levy of ■ £1 7s 6d per installation for the year 1947-48. The Tinwald School Committee wrote asking for the clearance of drains and shingling in the school area. It was decided to carry out the work. ' Permission was granted to the Public Works Department for the establishment of a plant repair depot on a site on the Maronan Road near the domain. The department, it. was advised, proposed to erect a workshop, store, garage and temporary living accommodation. A petition from a number of residents asked that the bus stop on the main south road be not moved to the proposed new site in Johnson Street. The meeting decided that, before reaching a final decision, the traffic inspector and an officer of Mid-Can-terbury Transport be invited to inspect the sites and give their views.
