TINWALD YARDS

FARMERS WANT QUESTION REOPENED With a view to asking the Ashburton County Council to reconsider its decision to sell the Timvald saleyards, the Lauriston branch of Federated Farmers at a meeting on Monday evening decided, on the motion of Mi J. G. Marshall, seconded by Mr R. Maidens, to ask the council to reopen the question before any action was taken in the matter. Mr T. V. Wilkinson presided over an attendance of 16 members. Mr Wilkinson reported on his efforts to secure a State house for the district to accommodate a worker. He was asked to continue his good work. A letter was received from Mr J. Cairns, chairman of the local Young Farmers’ Club, accepting the challenge to a public debate in the Lauriston Hall on Monday, August 11. The following team was selected to represent Federated Farmers: G. Scarth, S. Letham, J. Crozier and R. Penney. It was decided to ask Mr E. J. Wood to be judge. Mr F. Letham reported on the last Provincial Executive meeting, Mr Maishall on the last two agricultural section meetings, and Mr Letham on the meat and wool section. Delegates were asked not to go into committee more than was absolutely necessary . As the branch is already represented on the Wheat Pool Committee, it was decided not to nominate any other member. ' , Mr J. Mounsey reported on the rural mail project, stating that the scheme had been sent to Wellington. Mr F. Letham was asked to represent the branch at the proposed pasture competitions. It was decided that Mr Wilkinson write to the Railway Department asking for a definite statement *As to the cause of the hold-up of trucks during the grain season. A remit to the executive was as follows: “That no opportunity be missed to get any delegate who has been overseas to address provincial meetings.” Jt was reported that arrangements had been made for Mrs Moore, (W.D.F.F.) to speak to a public meeting at Lauriston on Wednesday, July 30.
