MOTHER AND SON DEAD
INJURED IN RECENT FIRE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 8. Two of three members of a family who suffered severe burns -and shock when a petrol explosion was followed by a fire at the rear of a milk bar and confectionery shop at St. Helier’s Bay on July 13 have died from their injuries in the Auckland Hospital. They are: Mrs Lorna lren» Caldwell, aged 49, wife of Walter Alexander Caldwell, of Tuhimata Street, St. Helier’s. Robert James Caldwell, aged 25, single, a warehouseman, a son of Mr and Mrs Caldwell. All 1h ree victims were admitted to the Auckland Hospital. Caldwell, sen., was discharged about 10 days ago. CYCLIST DIES OF INJURIES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 8. Fatal injuries were suffered by a well-known resident of the Te Aroha district when he was knocked from his bicycle by a car near Te Aroha racecourse to-night. He was Thomas Edgar, a middle-aged man, who was headmaster of the Elstow School. He was taken to the Waikato Hospital, but he died before he was admitted.
