Ashburton Man Had his Burial Plot Ready for Long Time
Prepared even to the inscription on the headstone (apart from the final date), a burial plot at Ashburton Cemetery lay in readiness for a long time. This week it was filled, when the death occurred of Mr Edward (“Ned”) O’Connor, at Tuarangi Home.
Mr O’Connor, who reached the age of 92 years, was an inmate of the home for 18 years and, during all that time, had not a day’s illness until compelled to keep to his bed a week ago.
Very independent in character, he began preparations for the end a considerable time ago, saving every penny possible and eventually having his burial plot completed. He purchased the ground, had a kerbing erected around, chose a suitable headstone, had this engraved in full apart from his age and final date, and then had it placed in position.
