MARRIAGES IN ASHBURTON BIRTHS FALL AWAY Marriages in Ashburton during the) month ended yesterday showed a further increase, but births were well down and deaths also had dropped away by a small margin. A'feature of the figures for the year to date is the big increase in, matrimonial contracts. Births last month numbered 19, compared with 27 in May of 1945. Deaths were 12, compared with 14, and marriages were 16, an increase of three on the corresponding month a year ago. One last month was performed by the registrar. For the five months ended yesterday, marriages totalled 84, compared with only 68 in the same portion of 1945; births were 133 against 146; and deaths were 63 against 65.
