Worker Benefits If the higher wage rate is offset by technological improvements, then the worker really benefits. He gets more goods for his money. But if it is merely an arbitrary markup, not offset by any improvement in efficiency, then it is merely an inflationary process’;—M err yle Stanley Rukey ser. Strange Self-Deception What strange self-deception it is to suppose that having spent all our reserves on winning the war, and piled up an astronomical debt, and imposed an-almost intolerable burden of taxation, we can now not only maintain but improve our standard of life, spend another thousand million or two on nationalisation projects, social security, and new subsidies, and do this out of a production which is below that of pre-war years.
