MINES ADRIFT

GALES ON SOUTH COAST (Rec. 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. Ships’ coast observers to-day reported 21 mines adrift off the south coast of England. The Air Ministry issued a warning of a new gale ii* the Channel area. One mine washed up on the Hastings seafront made necessary a diversion of traffic. Explosions can be heard along most of the south coast, as mines blow up or are exploded by naval parties.
