FEDERATED FARMERS

PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE MEETING NEW SECRETARY COMMENCES IN JANUARY There- was "an'attendance of about 30 at a meeting of the Provincial Executive of the Mid-Canterbury Branch of Federated Farmers yesterday afternoon. The president (Mr P. J. Mowat) presided. Willi a view to consolidating the roll, if was decided that the new provincial secretary (Mr J. G. Hannah) who would commence duties on January 12, lie instructed to draw up a plan whereby lie could systematically tour the County to make the acquaintance of all members and make them conversant with the aims, objects and reasons of Federated Farmers. The decision was made .on the motion of Mr C.' C. Winn, following receipt of a remil concerning Hie question from the Methven branch. Another remit was received from the Methven branch requesting that a uniform method of notifying members of branch meetings be organised. It was suggested that cards and an addressing machine be obtained for the purpose. It was decided that the matter be considered by the new. secretary.

A circular letter in favour of the postal ballot system was forwarded by the Laurisfon branch, with a request that it be circularised among branches. A motion that the circular be forwarded as requested was defeated.

The Mayfield branch wrote stating that it deplored the apparent leakage of information from Dominion Executive meetings regarding confidential activities contemplated by the Federation. The branch recommended that all possible steps lie taken to prevent, a recurrence, as" such information as had previously been- published had become public property before having been made available to executive branch officers. No action is- to be taken in the meantime. .

For the information of members, Mr Mowat gave the names of the Provisional Dominion Council of the Federation. They were: Messrs B. V. Cooksley (chairman), W. W. Mulholland, K. .1. Holyoake, M.P., W. Horrobih, A. Linton, H. E. Blyde, C. J. H. Wily, F. N. H. Beamish, E. G. Appleton, G. A. Walsh, W. J. Livingstone, F. N. Smith, J. Maher H. R. Sampson, C. H; Williams, W. N. Perry, G. C. Warren, A? J. Severn, T. C. Brash, N. P. Adams, W. Marshall and W. E. Hall.

Mr J . H. Grigg was elected delegate to the annual Dominion conference at. the end of February. A report on trie recent meeting of the Dominion Executive of the Farmers’ Union was given by Mr Mowat, in committee.

Agricultural Section

Reporting on a meeting of the agricultural section, held yesterday morn-

ing, Mr A. T. McLauchlan said that the question of Avheatf had been discussed with the Electoral Wheat Committee.

A remit ‘‘that the Mid-Canterbury branch of Federated Farmers wholeheartedly supports the action of the Wlieatgrowers’ Association 1 regarding wheat,” brought forward from the agricultural section’s meeting, was confirmed. . Considerable discussion followed the introduction of a remit forwarded from the agricultural section’s meeting, "that a sub-section comprising small seeds growers lie set up in the agricultural section.” It was decided to refer the remit, back to the agricull urnl section, .with power to disband the existing committee if required. Mr McLauchlan said that at the meeting in the morning five branches Avere against the idea and three in favour of it, while several branches had not considered the matter at all.

Meeting at Flemington

A general discussion on small seeds took place at a meeting of the Flemington branch, following receipt of a letter from the chairman of the Agricultural section (Mr A. T. McLapghlan). The meeting favoured the suggestion to form a small seeds subbranch of the agricultural section. An address was gi\ T en by Mr I. Barker (organiser). The president (Mr H. Bratley) presided.
