DUTCH EVACUEES
ACCOMMODATION IN DUNEDIN (P.A.) DUNEDIN, This Day. Details of a plan to bring 400 evacuees from the Dutch East Indies to Dunedin, and the possibility of this city being made ,the South. Island headquarters of the scheme for the care of the evacuees, were announced last night by Captain Johan Sclioon, of the Dutch East Indian Army, who will be in charge of the Dutch evacuees to the South Island, who are due to arrive early next year. Captain School), has advised the Commissioner in Australia of the accommodation available in Dunedin, and of the great help that has been given by the Mayor in his efforts to find accommodation for about 400 refugees in Dunedin and neighbouring towns. The Commission, comprising Mr Pllekaan, Dr. Panhuys (Dutch Consul in Wellington), Colonel Van Triclit, of the Dutch East Indian Army and manager of the scheme for the North Island, has been so impressed with Captain Rchoon’s description of the facilities offering in Dunedin that instead of terminating their tour in Christchurch they will arrive in Dunedin on Thursday morning and will leave again for the north on Friday. There is a possibility of using Eittlebourne House, Ihe late Sir John Roberts’ gift to the city, and also Larnach’s Cnslle, on the Otago Peninsula.
