WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
GARDEN PARTY AT METHVEN The annual garden party of the Methven Women’s Institute took place at the residence of Mrs A. G. Candy. The president, Mrs D. Chambers, extended a welcome to members and representatives of neighbouring Institutes. , The secretary of the Methven Play Centre wrote appealing for support for the appointment of a supervisor, and toys, old and new, for the children. It was decided to appoint Mrs G. Ireland as the Institute’s delegate to the Play Centre. During the afternoon opportunity was taken to farewell j Mrs and Miss D. Adams on their approaching departure for Timaru. Suitable gifts were presented by the president, as well as floral sprays to each of the guests. Several competitions were held and these were won by Miss J. Ayers (smelling), Mrs A. R. Gourley (clock golf), Mrs Bassett (stepping), Mrs M. Maginness (quoits), Mesdames Cook and Fitzgibbon (lucky cups). Mrs Candy was the recipient of a small gift from members for the hospitality afforded.
