FIVE POINTS

POLICY OF GOVERNMENT. BID FOR FULL EMPLOYMENT (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 5. _ Mr Herbert Morrison, Lord President of the Council, addressing a demonstration held in conjunction with the National Conference of Labour Women at Leeds, gave five points of the Government’s policy for ensuring the full employment and industrial efficiency. They were: — (1) The socialisation of certain important basic industries; (2) Steps to ensure that the sectors of industry and commerce left to private ownership are run efficiently ; (3) Stimulation of new capital investment in both the socialised and private sectors of industry to increase the output urgently needed of everyday goods; (4) Encouragement of scientific research to enable scientists to make the same contribution to the problems of peace as they gave to those of war; (5) More 'expenditure on technical and university education.

Mr Morrison added: “But, much as the Government can do, they cannot do everything. Whether we succeed in making an important advance in our over-all standard of living will depend on the men and women in industry. With your help we will do it.”
