ALLIES IN NANKING. (Rec. 9.30) CHUNGKING, Sept. 5. Chinese and American troops N who arrived in Nanking less than a week ago are in effect ‘guests” of the Japanese who have occupied the city for almost eight years. Nanking is showing few Avar scars and still has more than 70,000 Japanese troops in the vicinity and more than 15,000 Japanese civilians. Chinese forces at present number less than 1000 and the Americans about 20 officers and men. The Chinese main body is expected to begin landing to-day by plane from Chungking. Yesterday brought British, French, Dutch and Australian envoys for the surrender ceremonies. Correspondents who flew from Chungking landed at what used to he the main Chinese military airfield.
