MOTHERS’ UNION.

FESTIVAL AT ST. STEPHEN’S. Members of Mothers’ Unions at Ashburton, Methven, Mount Somers, Rakaia, Southbridge, Hinds and Tinwald gathered at St. Stephen’s Hall at Ashburton yesterday for the festival of Mothers’ Unions in Mid-Canterbury. Head Deaconess Spencer Smith, of Christchurch, gave the address at the service in the church in the morning, and she also spoke during the afternoon. Luncheon and afternoon tea were served. A meeting of the Chapter of the Rural Deaconry, at which the clergy of Mid-Canterbury were present, was held in conjunction with the festival.
