ST. JAMES THEATRE. A fantastic tale of a murder chain and hypnotic mental remote control is told in “Fingers at the Window,” show::: ; finally to-night at* the St. James Theatre. With Lew Ayres, Laraine Day and Basil Rathbone heading the cast, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s newest incursion into mystery deals with a strange series of murders committed by lunatics under hypnotic control. When Laraine Day, as a night club dancer, is menaced by the axe killers, Ayres, enacting a debonair young actor, turns amateur detective and despite police opposition succeeds in tracing the crimes down to a “master mind.” Ratlihone provides the proper sinister note to his portrayal of the saturnine scientist who rules the minds of his demented dupes, and effective supporting work is contributed by Walter Kingston!, Miles Mander, Charles D. Brown and Cliff Clark. A Leon Errol comedy, a sportscope on dog training are also showing. The attractions coming to the St. Janies on Thursday and Friday are “Tarzan’s Desert Mystery” and “The Scarlet Claw,” which should make an excellent double-feature programme. The serial will accompany the two features on both nights. As the decorators are wdrking in the theatre at present, a matinee will not be held on Friday this week.
