REPATRIATED MEN.
: TRANSPORTATION DELAYED. gfjrr • • (“Rec. 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 28. . More than 5300 liberated N.Z.E.F. prisoners of war have arrived in England, and have been checked through repatriation centres in Kent. Of the remaining 1500, nearly 500 are expect ed to arrive from Italy this week, while others are still to come from the Continent. . Transportation has been considerably' delayed last week due to bad weather, which hampered flying. It. is stated that a majority of the men still unaccounted for were in Stalag 18A, in Southern Austria, where repatriation has been delayed owing to what is described as the complicated political situation. In other words, the Russians are not allowing them to be moved for the time being. In other areas it is also possible that a number are in hospital and are not fit for immediate repatriation. It is understood that a ship will leave England shortly with the first hatch of repatriated prisoners to return to New Zealand. As they will be entering another jwa-r theatre, no details of their departure may be reported or described.
