AMERICAN APOLOGY

BOMBING OF SWITZERLAND.

SATISFACTION IN GENEVA. (Rec. 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, Mar. 9. Very great satisfaction is expressed here at the visit of General Spaatze (Commander of the American Strategic Bombardment Forces) to apologise for the American bombing of Swiss territory*, says the Geneva correspondent of “The Times” General ISsaatz, during: long talks with two members of the Federal Government, Swiss Air Force officers and civil defence authorities, suggested new means for more efficiently indicating the Swiss border, which at present is marked by a Swiss flag 16 feet wide spread out on the ground. Swiss feeling over the bombings was running very high and the man in the street could not understand why the Americans continued to bring death and destruction to a neutral region clearly identified.
