MERELY PAUPERS.
STATUS OF WIVES IN BRITAIN. LONDON. Because a principle of law passed in 1734 is involved, it is unlikely that, women claiming the right of wives to savings from housekeeping will obtain leave to appeal to the House of Lords. Miss Constance Colwill, the barrister, who is championing the wives’ case, said this at a London meeting of the National Women Citizen’s Association. “That 1734 law should be changed,” Miss Colwill said, “as under existing conditions married women are merely paupers dependent on their husbands.”
