NOT A CANDIDATE.
MR A. A. MCDONALD DECIDES. NOT CONTESTING MAYORALTY. The Deputy-Mayor (Mr A. A. McDonald) said to-day that although lie bad received numerous requests to stand for Ihe Mayoralty at the impending municipal election he had been forced to refuse owing to pressure of business. Mr McDonald will, however, stand for the Council, on which lie lias served for six years. In his first term he Avas on the Reserves, Sanitation, and Domain Committee, and during his second term lias been chairman of the Finance and By-laws Committee. “One of the principal reasons for my standing for the Council is that four of the older members are- retiring.” said Mr McDonald. “Present indications are that there will be at least four seat's to fill and in Aderv of the progressive spirit, of Ashburton tliove would be something lacking if (boy wore not keenly contested. There lias never been a lack of publicspirited men in the toAvn before and there should not be one now.”
