GRAIN AND PRODUCE. ! THE CHRISTCHURCH MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. There is little to record in the local grain and produce trade. Shipments of potatoes are still going north, but the season for North Island demand is practically over. The price operating until the next revision is made is £ll a ton for f.a.q. table and £ll 10s a ton for Sutton’s, both f.0.b., s.i. Isolated instances of barley still being sown are reported in some districts. Certain localities have proved their suitability for late sowing. The statistical estimate of an increase in area agrees with local ideas. A similar position to barley exists with peas. Indications are that a good acreage has been sown, but owing to the long delays and interference in sowing caused by the broken weather it is difficult to make an estimate of the area.

jThe general opinion in respect of the oats sowing is of a reduced acreage, particularly of white oats. Algerians have been in demand throughout the season and as the acreage of this variety declined last season it may recover its area to some extent. The small seeds market remains quiet, with the exception of red clover, for which inquiries have been received, the market firming slightly as a result.

The range of prices is as follows, all prices being on trucks at country stations, sacks extra unless otherwise stated:—

Wheat, final prices—6s 6&d a bushel for Tuscan f.0.b.; Hunters, 6s Sid; Pearl, 6s 10j£d; Marquis 7s Old. Potatoes' —F.a.q., table £ll a ton; f.a.q. Suttons, £ll 10s a ton; both f.0.b., s.i.
