NEW COAST GUN.
A TWIN SIX-POUNDER. RAPID, ACCURATE AND DEADLY. LONDON. The Army has another six-pounder gun which, though not famous as the anti-tank gun of the, same calibre, has been ready to give the Germans a nasty shock if they tried invasion at any time during the past four years. It Is a coast artillery twin gun, having little in common with the antitank weapon, and its primary purpose is for dealing with enemy light coastal motor-boats and small torpedoboats. Its powers were proved two years ago, when Italian torpedo-carrying craft and E-boats tried to attach Valotla Harbour, in Malta. Eight out of eight attacking craft were destroyed, and five of the Eboats. This success was due mainly to the rapid, accurate and deadly fire of the six-pounders. The guns are mounted in pairs in turrets having a turning circle of 300 degrees, so that the crews do not get in each other’s way, and eacli is loaded from the outer side. Their range is over 5000 yards, with a high muzzle velocity . They Ore liigh-cxplosive projectiles.
