“A BLACK OUTLOOK.”

TRADE IN THE DOMINION, (P.A.) DUNEDIN, This Day. A warning that unless traders got together in their protests against Government interference with their inter- | ests the outlook was extremely black, 1 was given by the Mayor (Mr J. Allen) at the annual meeting of the Otago Importers and Shippers’ Association, Mr Allen said that tho large number of empty shops in Dunedin, approximately 100, was the direct outcome of import restrictions and represented a great loss to the traders concerned. Reduced employment and lower incomo to the Government itself would result unless the position was rectified by relaxation of the restrictions. Ho felt convinced that it would become steadily worse, and it was imperative that I traders should make the strongest re- < presentations to the Government, to avert a serious situation after the war.
