TENNIS BALLS.
RELEASE OF LIMITED SUPPLY. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 7. Referring to the , supply of tennis balls, the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) said he had discussed the matter with interested organisations, and with the Factory Controller, and it had been agreed to release to clubs and owners of private courts a limited number of tennis balls for civilian use during the next season.
To ensure equitable distribution, the disbursement of this limited supply would be in the hands of the New Zealand Sports Goods Agents’ Association, acting in collaboration with the councils of sport set up by the Minister of Internal Affairs. The quantity of tennis balls to be released under this arrangement would be in addition to the supply that would be distributed by the Health Department to convalescents of the armed services, including United States forces.
Mr Sullivan said that supplies of raw rubber were very low in New Zealand, and the present release had been made possible by the production of reclaimed rubber in the Dominion.
