WAIPIATA PATIENTS.
MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. Mr Ernest Macdonald, of 1 airlic, was unanimously re-elected chairman at a meeting of tho AVaipiata Sanatorium Committee, at which Mr A\. Bryant represented the Ashburton Hospital Board. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. A. Kidd) reported that during May 35 patients had been admitted, 29 wero discharged and 127 wore in the institution at the end ef the month.. lie recommended as suitable for admission to the Sanatorium five patients from Southland, two from South Canterbury, and one from Ashburton —a total of eight, the secretary stating that seven of those patients had applied for admission.
The Director-General of Health forwarded the appendix to the annual report for the year ended March 31, which showed the average cost pel occupied bed for tlio different sanatoria to be: Cashmero £203.5, Pulreora £204.0, Otaki £234.4. Pleasant Valley £215.8, and Waipiata £1.66.8, the average number of occupied beds per day for those institutions being 168.3, 147.3, 05.7, 39.3, and 128.4 respectively. The secretary reported that on June 28 the associated boards had patients in the institution as follow: —Southland G 9, South Canterbury 28, Ashburton 14, Waitaki 9, South Otago 10, Vincent 4, Maniototo 3—a total of 13<. Since the previous meeting three patients from two hospital districts bad been discharged and there was a waiting list of 19 patients from six districts
The secretary submitted his annual report for the year ended March. 31. 1913, the statistics of the Sanatorium being ns follow (the previous year s figures shown in parentheses) —Average number of occupied beds per day 127.1 (128.4), average cost per occupied bed for year £1G7.6 (£166.7). The. treasurer submitted statements of the committee’s receipts and payments showing that on May 31 there was a credit balance of £13,213 19s 9d, which includes an amount of £10.006 invested on fixed deposit for capital works not yet started. Statements of receipts and payments for April and May, compared with the amounts estimated for the period, were also submitted, the actual maintenance receipts being £l5O 10s 4d more than the estimate, and the actual maintenance payments £358 8s lOd less than the estimate. It was decided to hold the next meeting on July 27, at Dunedin.
