HARMONICA BAND.
A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. A most satisfactory credit balance was shown in the report presented by the treasurer of the Ashburton Imperial Harmonica Band at the annual meeting of the band, which was held over the week-end in the Orange Ilall. The money was raised by weekly dances conducted by the band. The work of the band throughout the year was mainly confined to patriotic activities the secretary reported. Every second Sunday evening in each month the band gave a programme at the Welcome Club, and the first Saturday in each month a programme was given at the ladies’ evening of the Ashburton Working Men’s Club. A letter was received from the Boy Scouts asking for a donation. A grant of five guineas was made. It was also decided to invest in the Liberty Loan. This is the Band’s fourth contribution to war loans.
The election of officers resulted: Patron, Dr. J. Connor; president, Mr L. Chapman; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Miles, F. Pritchard, T. Smith, and W. Brown; conductor, Mr G. Bloomfield, deputy band-master, Mr W. Healey; drum major, Mr R. Kingsbury; sergeant, Mr Chapman; corporal, Mr R. Sparrow; lance-corporal Mr S. Scllimore; custodian, Mr A. Thomson; treasurer, Mr T.
