SOLDIERS HONOURED.
PRESENTATIONS AT RUAPUNA. The Ruapuna Hall was crowded when a social and dance was held in honour of Lieutenant Arthur McLay, LanceCorporal K. M. Baxter, Privates- .1. Patterson, T. Henderson, and J. MeKiminie. Mr H. C. Baxter, on behalf of the Ruapuna-Carew Patriotic Committee, presented Lieutenant McLay With a pipe, Lance-Corporal Baxter With a. hold-all, Privates J. Patterson and T. Henderson with fountain pens, and Private J. McKimmio with a money belt. Mrs H. R. Tasker, for the war workers, presented tho guests with a parcel of woollen comforts. Mr G. VV. Ross, on behalf of tho Ruapuna Tennis Club, presented Lieutenant McLay, Lance-Corporal Baxter and Private Patterson with cheques. On behalf of tho Home Guard Mr I). Clement presented Lieutenant McLay, Lance-Cor-poral Baxter and Privates Pa p erson and Henderson with gifts. Miss Mabel Jones, for the Carew Bible Class, handed Private J. Patterson a New Testament.
Other speakers were Mr D. Johnston (Presbyterian Church) and Mr K. M. Moore (Anglican Church). Lieutenant McLay replied on behalf of the men and Lance-Corporal Baxter also spoke. Items were given by Misses May Allan, Joyce Johnston and Y. Wright The accompanists were Mrs A. Donaldson and Miss Allan. Novelty dances were won by Mr and Mrs J. Conway, and Mr Alan McKenzie and Mrs Riddle. Music for dancing was played by Mr Carl Holland, with extras by Messrs Keith Ross and Erie Rowell. Messrs K. M. Moore and F. Allan were masters of ceremonies.
GATHERING AT HINDS. Among the presentations made at a gathering in honour of soldiers at Hinds was that of a gold medal to Gunner A. Hawke. The medal being presented by Mr W. T. Lowe. Driver Henderson also received a medal.
