WELCOME HOME.
WATERTON SOLDIER HONOURED. Gunner Lindsay Towers, who has leturned after three years’ service overseas, was welcomed homo at a largely attended gathering at Waterton on Tuesday evening. Mr G. E. Bice, president of tho Longbeach Soldiers’ Social Committee, presided and on behalf of residents thanked Gunner Towers for tho service ho had given and wished him a speedy return to health. Mr J. 11. Grigg also welcomed Gunner Towers. In presenting Gunner (lowers with on inscribed gold medal, Colonel .1. Findlay congratulated tho guest on his record of service.
Mr K. Taylor replied for Gunner Towers. On his behalf lie thanked the residents not only for the warmth of the welcome but for tho interest which had |pllowed him and tho other soldiers from the district wherever the fortunes of war had carried them. Gunner Towers had asked him to assure. those present that the benefits. 6f comforts from patriotic funds wore deeply appreciated by the men overseas.’ Parcels of comforts, cakes, papers and letters from the local ladies’ soldiers’ comforts committee had followed him throughout his campaigning and had been tho brightest spot in tho life of a soldier thousands of miles from homo.
Gunner Towers was accorded musical honours.
