According to the Algiers radio, Allied Headquarters announced that American troops occupied Mateur. The occupation of this important road and rail junction breaks the lull, of which the communique spoke earlier to-dav, and marks an important advance. It brings the Allies within about 20 miles of Bizerta. from the. south-east, while from *tlie west the French troops, advancing between the coast and Lake Aelikel, have reached a point 15 miles from Bizerta. This is stated in today’s communique, also quoted by the Algiers radio.

Correspondents say that the Americans advanced 15 miles and took Mateur tliis morning, several hundred Gcsrmans being captured.
