ANZAC DAY.
PARADE IN NEW CALEDONIA.
(Official War Correspondent, N.Z.E.F.) NEW CALEDONIA, April 25.
A call to Now Zealanders serving in the Pacific theatre of war to give of their best, emulating the deeds of the original New Zealand Division on Gallipoli, was made to-day at an Anzac parade by Major-General H. E. Barrowclough, commanding New Zealand troops in the South-west Pacific. "We of tbe New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Pacific have not yet been tried by the ordeal of battle,” Major - General Barrowclough said, “but we stand ready for that test and I lenow wo shall not fail. Though we long for the pleasant healthy hills of our own land, yet wo shall not flinch from tho fevered jungles and sickly malarial swamps that lie between us and victory. We, whose homes and families grow ever dearer with our ever-lengthening separation from them, are resolved that we shall not seek to return until we have made an end to the evil that now threatens them.
“Only by such resolve can we fitly commemorate the valour of the men to whom wo wish to do honour to-day.”
The. parade at which Major-General Barrowclough spoke was one of many. A number of senior officers were present with Major-General Barrowclough when lie took the salute. The address was given by Padre G* R. Thompson.
