RUGBY FOOTBALL.

WIN FOR RAKAIA AND ARMY. Wins were scored by Rakaia and Army in friendly Rugby matches played on Saturday. . In the senior grade Army beat Technical Old Boys by five points, the scores being 16-11. For Army, Laplanche, Morrison, V. Bennett aiid Johnston each scored a try and McWhirton added two conversions, K. Muir, D. Childs and J. Ching each contributed a try to Old Boys’ score and a conversion came from 51. r°yThere was a narrower margin between the third grade teams, the score being Rakaia 9, Timvald 8. Rakaia's total was composed of three tries, scored by 11. Smith, C. Gardner and G. Scdgewick. For Tinwald, R. Brunton scored two tries, one of which was concerted by J. Bell. •

THE REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION.

“Last season was successful, but trying owing to the number of referees in the armed forces,” stated the secretary’s report at the annual meeting of the Referees’ Association, held on Saturday evening. There may he difficulty in refereeing the weekly football matches on account of the shortage. The treasurer’s report showed a satisfactory balance. Officers elected were: President, Mr S. W. Kerr: vice-president, Mr A. McClelland; secretary, Mr T. Hendlcy; assistant-secretary, Mr M. Farrell; treasurer and auditor, Mr G. V. Furby. Mr* Kerr, who pi*esided, entertained members at a social hour after the meeting.
