The Mayor submitted to the Council the following list of work whit'll would provide employment for such men, essential items being given priority: (L) Allenton high-pressure water supply; (2) the Allenton underground drainage scheme; (3) completion of the paving of footpaths; (4) paving of streets at East Ashburton; (s)‘ paving of streets at Allenton; (6) rebuilding of the Municipal Chambers; (7) planting of waste land such as rubbish-dumps and the riverbed reserve; (8) construction of a swimming bath at the Domain; (9) provision of playing areas and children’s playgrounds at Allenton and East Ashburton. Government subsidies would be made to assist some of the projects, said Dr. Connor.
